Beaujolais release parties, a free look at a new play and hometown punk rock

YOU PICKED A VINE TIME: Today marks the annual unveiling of the new vintage of Beaujolais Nouveau, a young wine that's meant to be drunk a few weeks after bottling. Traditional release parties (the third Thursday in November) celebrate the first uncorking; here are a few around town: Wine Discount Center locations will feature two Beaujolais Nouveau wines (Mommessin and Bouchard-Aine & Fils) with a free tasting from 3-7PM. At Cyrano's Bistrot & Wine Bar, the celebration includes a three-course prix-fixe dinner paired with a glass of Beaujolais ($39).
CHILLY RECEPTION: Check out Victory Garden's new production, "The Snow Queen," before anyone else at tonight's free open rehearsal. Tony Award-winning director Frank Galati leads this musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's winter wonderland fairytale complete with surreal puppets and stage sets. After the show, stick around for free pizza and wine courtesy of Zig Zag Cafe. 6PM.
ROCK AND ROLL LIFESTYLE: Local punks Rise Against and Alkaline Trio fire up their amps at the Congress Theater tonight. Opening are Thrice and The Gaslight Anthem for a night of thought-provoking anthems played at ear-splitting volume. 7PM, $27.50.
