Didn’t JAM Productions promise us live music and rock concerts at Uptown Theatre almost a year ago?

And yet, many Chicagoans continue to wait for the re-opening of this beloved theatre, an entertainment dead-zone since 1981. Come Wednesday, we may finally know what’s up.

The Chicago Architecture Foundation will screen “Portrait of a Palace,” a film that details the history of the Uptown Theatre, Wednesday at the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s first floor gallery in the Santa Fe Building, 24 S. Michigan Ave.

After the documentary is screened, Jerry Mickelson, JAM Productions founder, and Andy Pierce, a Friends of the Uptown volunteer, will elaborate on the theatre’s history and future, CBS 2 reports. A discussion will follow the presentation, and citizen participation is encouraged.

After a legal dispute over the theatre’s rightful owner began last summer and continued into the beginning of this year, progress toward the theatre’s renovations will finally be revealed.

Come on, JAM. We’re looking for the low-down on the Uptown. Tell it how it is.
