The Chicago Sinfonietta, a classical orchestra that is known to collaborate with various arts organizations, has partnered with the Shedd Aquarium on a chamber music series inspired by the world's bodies of water. The 2008-2009 chamber series will showcase small ensembles made up of Sinfonietta orchestra members as well as featured guest performers. The first concert in the series, entitled "Dip Your Big Toe," will feature 11 Sinfonietta members and movement artist Asimina Chremos on Friday, Nov. 28 at 7:30PM at the Shedd.
"Dip Your Big Toe" will celebrate the ocean and all of its life forms with a repertoire of classical music by Pachelbel and Bach, as well as contemporary compositions by James Mack and Bibiana Maite. Chremos' movement pieces will accompany the music. The hour-long concert will be followed by a Q&A session with a Sinfonietta musician and a member of the Shedd Aquarium staff. The Shedd will open at 6PM to tour and get some inspiration before the water-themed concert. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 312-236-3681.
Two additional concerts complete the Chicago Sinfonietta's chamber music series on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 and Thurday, April 30, 2009. Mark your calendars now!
