Pick A Fest: Pitchfork or Lolla?
Golden Local Debate wants you to decide which festival is the best.

Thousands of screaming fans, the thundering noise of guitars, drums, and other musical instruments and the pulse of adrenaline rushing through your veins. It’s a scene that people relish and the reason why, each year, fans from all over the nation flock to two widely-known festivals in Chicago: Lollapalooza and Pitchfork Festival.
Both are rockin', popular and loved, but the debate over which is best is running high. In this month's Golden Local debate, it’s time for music fans to speak up and tell us which music festival you think takes the prize.
Lollapalooza is a three-day music festival that has called Chicago home since 2005. More than 75,000 fans attend each day to watch hundreds of bands perform on several different stages. Lollapalooza features alternative rock, pop, funk, hip-hop, and punk bands, while also catering to those who like dance and comedy performances. This year you’ll see bands such as The Killers, Band of Horses and Jane’s Addiction. Other artists like Snoop Dogg and Ben Folds will also make an appearance.
Pitchfork Fesitval is also a three-day music festival, but plays out in Union Park on the near West Side. Coming into its fourth year, they have attracted over 50,000 people each year. The creators of this festival say their goal is to bring fans an “overwhelmingly positive, comfortable and fun festival experience”. This July, fans can enjoy bands like Yo La Tengo, The Flaming Lips and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.
This debate will have a winner, and that’s where you come in.
Some fans have already started voting, saying Lollapalooza is mind-blowing with an unbelievable line up and they find a way to appeal to all audiences. But Pitchfork Festival fans are countering, saying Pitchfork is better because it’s less crowded, has lower prices and has better bands.
